NCCC ready for student tenants

The first on-campus housing facility for niagara county community college students is ready for occupancy.

About 215 students are expected to move this weekend into Village College Suites, college officials said Tuesday. The $19.3 million dormitory, which is the first new building to be built on NCCC’s sanborn campus since the 1970s, will be owned and managed by united group of Properties Inc., of Troy.

Equipped with full kitchens, the apartment-style dorm features two-person and four-person suites. Two-person suites will cost about $7,200 per student for the school year. Costs for four-person suites, which vary depending on the number of bedrooms, range from $4,900 per student to $6,500 per student for the school year.

Adding on-campus housing provides “a fuller college experience,” NCCC president james Klyczek said. Plus, “student housing is an important asset in our efforts to retain market share and recruit students,” he said.

amenities of the new facility include wired and WiFi internet access, flatscreen televisions and an exercise room. Utilities are included in the rental fee.

Right now, the dorm is about 100 students shy of being filled to its 308-student capacity, the college said. If it fills to capacity and becomes stable in the next few years, up to two more buildings could be added to house students.
