Student's finger chopped off by falling window

A student’s finger was chopped off at lincoln park high school when the window he was trying to open fell on his hand friday morning on the North Side.

The incident occurred at 10:10 a.m. at lincoln park high school, 2001 N. orchard st., according to chicago public schools spokesman Malon edwards.

“Three or four students were in a computer lab, trying to open a window and the window came down on a student’s hand,’’ according to edwards, who said the student who lost his finger is a junior. “The teacher told them not to open the window,’’ edwards said.

“It happened so quickly, we’re still trying to investigate what happened,’’ edwards said.

The teacher notified the principal and a security guard and the guard and the teacher were able to recover the finger, wrap it up and give it to emergency workers.

An ambulance transported the teenage boy, who was “calm” to Children’s memorial hospital, where the finger was being reattached, edwards said.

The victim was transported as a trauma patient, Fire Media affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
