Student diversity increase pledged by CCAC

The community college of allegheny county will attempt to enroll a student body that is at least 27 percent minority or disadvantaged, the school's board of trustees announced Thursday.

ccac had a 21 percent minority student population as of the fall semester in 2007. The 27 percent goal reflects the school's mission on diversity and inclusion, adopted Sept. 18, 2006, that seeks to make a college education more accessible.

The school will work to increase enrollment of minority and disadvantaged students through targeted recruitment.

The trustees announced the college will maintain purchasing from businesses owned by minorities or women at a minimum of 15 percent. Currently, 22 percent of its purchases are from women-owned and minority-owned businesses.
